5 Ways to Boost Your Hold-em Winnings

Suited Hands
Don’t overrate suited hands. That A-5 of diamonds may get you thinking you might flop a flush. but the odds are about 1 in 121or 0.84% of flopping a flush . Suited cards only add
2 or 3% to your chances of taking the hand.
The Gap
This is a rule that sounds odd. You should be more willing to raise with a particular opener than to call. Let’s say you draw K-Q coming out. If you are the button and everyone checks, a raise would be the play but if a middle position raises ahead of the flop, I would often fold the K-Q because it is too easily beaten by the type of hand he is likely to raise with from that position.
Raise or Limp
As a general rule I think it wise, if you are the first to throw in your poker chips, I would raise. You will see better players limp in ahead of the flop but chances are you are not at that level yet or you would be writing this instead of reading it Therefore I believe raising to be the better plan of attack.. Why ?
Reason 1
It limits the competition A pair of pocket aces against 1 player wins about 80% of the time while the same pair against 3 players only wins about 50% of the time.
Reducing competition increases your odds of taking the hand.
Reason 2
It forces your opponents to reveal the strength of their hand. Say you have a K-Q and everyone checks to you in last position and you limp in, then everyone folds except big blind.. What cards is he holding? You have no idea,. However, if you had the same K-Q and raised several times and the BB calls, Unless he’s a lunatic he probably has a strong play and you have a better idea of what he’s holding.
Reason 3
Another reason to raise ahead of the flop is to take control of the betting. This sends a message that I have the best hand and if you want it you’ll have to have some pretty heavy guns to get it.
Reason 4
Conceal the strength of your hand. There is a tendency to raise big with pocket aces and not so big with pocket 10s. By keeping your raises  generally the same you will keep your opponents guessing
Reason 5
If everyone limps in and you are on the button. You have a must raise situation. Then if all fold, of which there is a very good chance, you get the blinds and antes with almost no risk.

I am not an expert. These are only my opinions and should be treated as such. I do not advocate using these strategies. They are an expression of what I do and do not suggest you do the same. This is my CYA statement. Thanks for putting up with this BS.
